Collegiate Athlete Nutrition

College athletes face a unique combination of demands: high training volume, travel, academic schedules, dining hall or apartment cooking realities, and — often for the first time — full responsibility for their own fueling. H2O Nutrition provides performance nutrition counseling built specifically around the collegiate athletics environment.

What Makes Collegiate Athletes Different

Unlike professional athletes with team-provided meals, most collegiate athletes are managing their own food environment — dining halls, dorm kitchens, or apartments — for the first time, often while traveling frequently for competition. Nutrition plans need to be realistic for that environment, not theoretical.

What We Cover

In-season and off-season fueling — adjusting intake as training volume shifts across the academic year
Travel nutrition strategy — practical fueling for road trips, hotel stays, and irregular meal timing
Dining hall and dorm-kitchen strategy — building a workable plan around real food access, not an idealized one
Recovery protocols — fueling around back-to-back practices, competitions, and lifting sessions
Body composition and performance nutrition — supporting position- or sport-specific goals without compromising energy availability
Female Athlete Triad / RED-S screening — particularly relevant for endurance, aesthetic, and weight-class collegiate sports

Who This Is For

NCAA Division I, II, and III athletes
Club and intramural competitive athletes
Athletes new to managing their own nutrition away from home
Collegiate teams looking for a group nutrition talk

How It Works

Andrea Dacey, RDN, CSSD works with collegiate athletes in person in Boston and San Diego, and via telehealth — useful for athletes at schools without easy access to a sports dietitian, or during summer training away from campus.
